A 3rd Garfield Movie....with potential?
Later this year we get an all CGI Garfield movie.
But let me finish before the groaning and the 'Oh god not another Garfield Movie' begin.
It's all CGI, and they use the comic/cartoon designs.
And it has real voice actors.
And a plot that makes fun of the comic industry
It's story is based around Garfield deciding hes tired of being a comic strip, so he 'escapes' to the real world, then realises if he doesnt make it back before the newspapers are published, the strip would be cancelled because he wont be in it.
...could this maybe be good? Maybe? Wally Wingert is playing John, no idea who Garfield is yet, but nobody, NOBODY, can replace Lorenzo Music as Garfield, but maybe it'll be someone good.
I know it isn't good to get my hopes up that it'll be good, but with Jim Davis writing (Davis didn't write any of the recent live action movies, but DID do writing on the old cartoon) I'm hopefully that even if it isn't great like the old cartoon it'll at least be 'good'.
Garfield Gets Real, later this year on DVD (and there will also be Wii and DS game adaptions).

i didn't like the movies - i much prefer the cartoon strips. Mind you since Jim is writing it it should be pretty decent.

The sheer fact that they're using the cartoon designs for the cgi alone is a VERY damn good sign. The fact that Jim Davis has a better support role in this just increases the chances of this being good.
And yes, NO ONE can replace Lorenzo Music as Garfield... though that public service announcement about drawing on syndication had a Lorenzo Music imitator that sounded pretty damn close to the originial. Not perfect mind you, but defienalty a LOT better than the guy who did Garfield in the movies.

I actually liked the films. Not because they're good, because they're terrible, but I had fun watching them. Plus, I liked Bill Murray as Garfield, which while it wasn't a perfect-to-the-original Lorenzo Music voice, it was still close enough for me. Also, how can you not like that casting? Breckin Meyer is the perfect John... even if the character was raped.
@Seifer: "The sheer fact that they're using the cartoon designs for the cgi alone is a VERY damn good sign." I would argue that. Is it a damn good sign that Rainmaker and Zeros 2 Heroes are working on "new" versions of ReBoot? All it takes is the wrong direction to completely ruin the purity of the original cartoon designs. They're playing with fire here, and one false move and it will blow up in their face.
"but defienalty a LOT better than the guy who did Garfield in the movies." It's Bill Murray, and he's almost at Joe Pesci level. (A few more worthless comedies, and weird surrealistic films to go.) It's an insult to call him "that guy"; he's fucking Peter Venkman for gods sake. And while I agree no one can replace Music, Bill isn't that bad by a long shot. Remember, they could have always gotten someone else, and it could have always been worse; so just be thankful that the films got someone who sounded as close to Music as we got.

He wasn't that bad as a voice but we all know what to say about music. I do still like the comic. It helped me and a girl I liked once talk about stuff. But this may be good. I never saw the second one.

@Neo: The second movie, in my opinion, was a small step up from the first. You can take or leave whatever you want from that.

Maybe I can find it cheap. VHSes should be really cheap depending on the movie. And I have the other one on tape too. |
