ReBoot back in action?

I've never been that much of a fan of Reboot, but I know there are a few of you out there who are, including the big boss man himself, goc. So, when I stumbled upon Zeros2Heroes, announcing that the classic CG animated series will make its triumphant return, I thought it important to make a post of it.

Rainmaker Entertainment is a 3D animation and post-production company (yeah, I know, I've never heard of them either, but apparently they've worked on I, Robot, Stargate (TV), and Smallville's special effects) and after recently acquiring Mainframe entertainment (ReBoot) has decided it wanted to spear-head a new project based on the popular ReBoot series, and apparently more than that, a completely fresh take on the property all together.

You’ve seen it before: a big entertainment company trying to squeeze out a few more ducats from a classic and much-beloved story. They tart it up, modernize it, stick in a hip new sidekick, then parade the “new and improved” production in front of the fans… who are suitably disgusted.

Naturally, the production bombs and no one can seem to figure out why. But this time, it’s going to be different.

One thing is for sure, they do well making the catchy quotables, but one has to wonder whether or not they can hold up their end of the bargain. Surely we've seen companies address the quality issue before, and subsequently provide a product that in their eyes is top-shelf, but in reality misses the mark entirely.

The site doesn't specifically seem to say what the hell they're doing at all, beyond a link to "ReBoot Comic", which describes in short that Zeros 2 Heroes is teaming up with Rainmaker on a comic book idea, but it would appear to be a lot more in the works than just that. The Raw Feed suggests that three films are actually in development, but as I've seen no such actual suggestion of one, let alone three, blatantly on Zeros 2 Heroes, I am going to have to give this one a wait and see and a wonder if it will even make it that far to begin with.

Apparently that isn't all though, and they've decided that not only do they want to do this 'right', but that they are going to take their cue from the fans. They've requested that fans 'review every aspect of their pitch', from the art to the story, and are even open to young and aspiring artists to send in their own work. That isn't all, though, they say there are prizes!

Seriously, though, am I the only one that -- despite hope -- thinks the odds are weighed against them, even yet? I can't help but think that giving the fans the option to choose the kind of story and look they're going with to be a bad idea; it really sounds like a fanfic in the making, which scares the hell out of me.
