Digimon Story: Lost Evolution
A Japanese blog is currently reporting that there is a new Digimon Story game, for the DS, in the works. It's current name is "Digimon Story: Lost Evolution" subject to change, with a release date of 2010.
More news will be posted as it becomes available.
Hmm a new Digimon game out of the blue.....speculate away.

Seems it periodically goes up and down. I tried 3 times in total, twice broke, now working.

Just a little teaser information given there. Looks like the digimon have lost the ability to digivolve (or possibly they just can't evolve as expected; using Babelfish's crappy translation here), and you have to travel around to "recover evolution." Deposit them on your digifarm to train them and make them stronger.
Sounds more or less like its predecessors so far, not that that's a bad thing. Heck, Digimon just getting a new game is pretty good news in my book. Hope this means the franchise isn't dead.

Well its good news that the series isn't completely dead. The "Story" series have been consistently good at wasting time and the wide selection of Digimon they have shows they give a crap (as opposed to cashing in like some Digimon games). They also consistently get brought overseas (although out of three during a time when an anime series was airing, that's not hard to believe) and that makes me happy. For some reason a new Digimon game for the DS seems like the excuse Bandai might use to gauge popularity for an English version of Digimon Masters, although thats as speculative and "jump-to-conclusiony" as I'll get here.

Just a word of advice - Do not get your hopes up yet people!
As much as I also hope that this is a new Digimon game, I've seen this "That RPG will return" site (That's what the Japanese text with "RPG" translates to) reported elsewhere, and there's some speculation that it could be a new Xenosaga or Baten Kaitos game, as Namco Bandai is also responsible for those series. We could be setting ourselves up for disappointment, but I guess we'll find out in a day's time (Countdown says that there's 1 day left). :)
